Publicists, stop wasting your time pitching reporters who don't want to write what you're selling. Reporters, stop wasting your time deleting dozens of lame email pitches for products or events you will NEVER cover.
Let's face it. There's only one way to know which pitches a reporter wants, and which ones they don't. Find out the stories they're working on. SourceBarn is bringing Reporters, Writers and Editors together with Publicists to accomplish their common goal. So here's how this works. Reporters, let me know which stories you ARE working on, I'll let publicists know which sources you need to talk to. It will all happen with respect for your deadlines and your need for discretion. |

Granted, this isn't exactly a novel concept. For years, ProfNet Posts has connected writers with sources. More recently, the venerable Peter Shankman has been doing this, for free, on his Help a Reporter Out site. But even before HARO, we noticed these forums were dominated by writers for national outlets looking for sources on a national level. There was no one connecting Alabama reporters with Alabama sources. Now there is. |

I'm Not Making a Dime Off This... |

...so until I can figure a way to do so, here's how you can help me out. TELL SOMEONE. This only works if lots of reporters and lots of publicists are using it. So please, send out an email to as many publicists and as many reporters as you know (heck, email a couple you don't!) Not sure what to say (or too lazy, I mean busy, to write it yourself)? Here's a nice sample email you can send to your friends. |

Okay guys, here it is in a nutshell. You send me what you're looking for, I compile the requests and send them out twice a day. We let publicists know precisely the interview subjects you are seeking, what your deadline is, and whether you want to be contacted directly. Don't want the competition to know what you're working on? Send it anonymously, give as few details as possible and I will have the publicists respond to me and send them on to you. Cool? Let's get started. |

No offense. None taken.
Truth is, we PR folks aren't bad sorts, are we? Noooo! We're just trying to make a living like the next guy. And we don't like to spam reporters - hoping that blindly thrown rock will hit some reporter just the right way - do we? So here's what we're going to do. We're gonna let 'em come to us. Sign up for my twice daily emails. It's free, why not? I'll share queries from Alabama reporters looking for sources on everything from corporate capers to fun features. Give it a shot? Here's how. |
